Glen Campbell, the guitarist/vocalist/songwriter who was among the first artists to blur the lines between country and rock, died at age 81 on August 8, 2017, after a long, and quite public, battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Campbell’s best-known hits include the ever-indelible “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Wichita Lineman,” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and they can be found in hi-res form on HDtracks at 192/24 and 96/24 options. Three key offerings from Campbell’s deep catalog are included there: Rhinestone Cowboy, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, and That Christmas Feeling. A collaboration with songwriter Jimmy Webb, In Session, is also available, albeit at just the 44.1/16 standard. Campbell’s recent 2017 release, the heartbreakingly apropos Adios, is not yet in the hi-res rotation, but hopefully it’ll make its way there soon.
