Steven Wilson’s Hand. Cannot. Erase. (kScope) is Hi Res Audio Central’s inaugural Hi Res Audio Release of the Year for 2015. Setting new standards and pushing the aural envelope all feed into the approach Wilson took when recording his fourth solo album. The Blu-ray edition includes an expansive surround-sound mix in 96/24 that once again raises the bar for what can be accomplished in 5.1.
I reached out to Wilson directly to share the news, and he replied with the following comments, exclusive to HRAC:
There were several songs from writing sessions for the last two albums that were left unfinished — not for reasons of quality, but because they didn’t really fit in. These have recently been completed, and will now have their moment when they will be issued on a new companion release to Hand. Cannot. Erase. towards the end of January 2016. I called this album 4 ½, as it forms an interim release between my 4th solo album and the next of what I guess we can call my “major statements.” As usual, there will be a high-resolution audio option in the form of a Blu-ray with 96/24 stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Hope you enjoy!
Oh, I’m sure we will, good sir. I’m sure we will. Congratulations again on another stunning aural achievement.
