“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” read a statement posted on Bowie’s official social media accounts.
Back in July 2012, producer Ken Scott and I discussed his and Paul Hicks’ 5.1 SACD mix of Bowie’s seminal 1972 RCA release, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.
“David had the right idea as far as I was concerned,” Scott told me. “As soon as doing 5.1 for Ziggy Stardust was mentioned as a possibility, he said he would only allow it if the original producers and engineers did the mixes, which was really good to hear.”
